If it’s light, gentle whiskies that float your boat, you’ll be excellently suited to ‘The Lowland Ladies’ – the affectionate nickname given to the single malts distilled in the Lowland region of Scotland. ; Delicate, floral flavours are the name of the game here, with minimal peat and a certain dryness that is favoured by many.; ; Down in the Lowlands you’ll find famous distilleries like Bladnoch, Glenkinchie and the famous Auchentoshan – though unfortunately, big names like Rosebank and Ladyburn are recently defunct, despite glowing reputations for wonderful spirits. The vast majority of the malts produced in the Lowlands end up in blends – but you’ll still find the occasional single malt to try from this diverse and much-loved distilling region.
