Campbeltown was once a town booming with more than thirty distilleries. Now there are just three in operation – but they still consistently turn out a number of incredibly rich and pungent whiskies that enthral connoisseurs the world over. The town itself sits on the Mull of Kintyre peninsula – and it’s rumoured that this proximity to the open water gives Campbeltown whiskies their inimitable salty tang. ; Springbank and Glen Scotia are the main two distilleries that have survived from the golden era of Scotch domination – Mitchell’s Glengyle was resurrected back in 24, and now sells intoxicating single malts under the name Kilkerran. Springbank whisky retains a smoky taste that is robust and perfectly befitting of the area, while Glen Scotia’s, light, grassy options offer a wonderful alternative.
